Why we exist

Every person on the planet is a precious human being. That's true of each one of us. But sadly inequality and injustice abound and some don't get the opportunities that others do.

The question is, how can we play our part in making the world a fairer place?

Perhaps though, we don't appreciate what it is like to experience injustice.

Imagine what day-to-day life could be like for someone who does...

Some of us have never been truly hungry, or thirsty, or completely broke. We’ve never had to pray the rains will come so we’ll have something to eat. We’ve never had to walk five kilometres in the burning sun to fetch water, or tell our kids they can’t go to school because we can’t afford the books.

Yet there are over 45,000,000 people in Uganda and many of these don’t have these basic things in life.

That’s a massive number. In fact, it’s roughly half the population of the United Kingdom. And we’ve probably never spent a day without a drink, a snack, or a pound in our pocket.

On this site we’d like to introduce you to a handful of those 45,000,000 people. They have a name, a family, and they need our help. They didn’t choose to be born in a village where hunger and thirst are the norm. Just as we didn’t choose to be born in a country where taps flow with clean water and we worry about the amount of food we chuck in the bin.

Come and walk in their shoes for a few minutes. Take a stroll on their daily journey. Dig for hours in the hope of producing food in a few months’ time. Carry 20 kilos of water in a jerry can. Go to the toilet in the bush. Fall asleep with a rumbling tummy on a dirt floor.

Now, decide you will help. We don’t have million pound programmes that need supporting, but rather simple things that work. Things like training in farming, business skills, vocational skills, building boreholes and providing education. For as little as £40 a year, for 3 years, we know how to give a hand up to an entire family.
